Bio
Early Gaming
Spud’s early life has happened so long ago now, that he can hardly remember it, apart from a few bits and pieces. His gaming career began when he was knee high to a grass hopper, beginning with Centipede on the Atari 64, but he was a late comer when it came to racing games, the first of which was F1 World Grand Prix on the N64 in 1999 (I think). As it is with racing games today, Spud for the career mode of this game a bit tedious, but revelled in the Challenge Mode. To this day, it is one of Spud’s greatest achievements, to have scored 100% in that game mode. Sadly, a number of years later, the N64 made some funny noises and disappeared into Nintendo heaven.
Playstation Generation
Fast forward to 2007, and Spud saved up for a Playstation 3, and only barely had enough to buy F1 Championship Edition. Wasn’t able to do online gameplay, but still, Spud spent many nights with this game. It was, and still is possibly, the best F1 game ever, but to be honest, F1 games are a bit poo.
The Codemasters games were where this aul online gaming thing started for Spud. He was invited to take part in a virtual championship called The Collantine Cup. Basically, he was badgered, for quite some time, to get some internet so he could join in, and it wasn’t long before he caved in, and did exactly that! In his first season with the Collantine Cup crew, he was saved from the shame of the Wooden Spoon by Riise, who only showed up for one race, and didn’t finish it. In his second season of Collantine Cup, Spud was slightly more successful, scoring 400% more points than he did in his first season! This equates to 12 points, but hey, he avoided the wooden spoon that year too!
Spud also took part in the Le Mans 24 Laps, a Collantine Cup sanctioned, online event, which took place a couple of hours before the start of the real life 2012 Le Mans 24 Hours. Spud has categorically stated that he is far more comfortable on Gran Turismo 5 than he is on, “that stupid Codemasters game.”. He then turned up at the (virtual) Le Mans, and was in with a real shot of winning the event, except he ran too long on his first set of tyres, and made a balls of the Porche Curves on the last lap. Which was a pity.....
Really Rubbish Racing
So then, after around a year of constant badgering by Bookoi and Ajokay, Spud *finally* caved in. He collected up a stack of dvds and old video games, and traded them all in, resulting in Spud only having to pay a tiny amount of euros for a brand new Xbox and a copy of Forza 4. On the weekend of March 9th, Spud lined up with some #RlyR guys, to see what all the fuss was about, and indeed, to see how much work he had to do to be competitive (which, as it turns out, is a lot). Initially, he found the lack of a racing line a struggle to deal with, having had the racing line set to “corners only”, in other racing games. Some say, he is still struggling, but he’s too stubborn to admit it, lest he seem like a total girls blouse.
Spud’s made his debut for Team Tayto on March 13th at Round 11 of the Nihon Tour at Suzuka. Having qualified a surprising 12th place, Spud went on to finish 19th and 20th in the feature and sprint races respectively. Which was a reasonable result for a guy that didn’t even own an Xbox the week previously.
Spud, and Team Tayto, finished the Nihon Tour with nil pointe, and in 31st place. The Clio Cup was slightly more successful, with the Team happy to gain 4 points to finish in 30th place.
When asked if he was happy with his debut with the Really Rubbish Racing Series, Spud replied with, “Ah shur, gwan outta dat, it’s only great craic, so it is! I do like drivin’ dem aul fast cars, so I do, to be sure, to be sure”. Unfortunately, an interpreter was not present at the time this interview was conducted.....
Not long before the start of the Seat European Cup Series, it was announced that Spud would join forces with Pyjames’ Cunning Linguist Motorsport. Spud’s interpreter tells us that “He is extremely pleased, and feels privileged to be asked to join with such a prestigious team, and such a prolific teammate.”
On April 30th, it was announced that Spud and Pyjames would again be teaming up for the Cruddy #2 special event. It would seem that the guys have gone slightly overboard with the alcohol advertising, so have been “encouraged” to race under the moniker “Team Drink Responsibly”. Whatever is the case, the two drivers are said to be pleased with the paint job they have done, on a car with was such a mare to paint in the first place.
