"Proper cars on a proper track. Nuff said."
The season kicked off with the racy Peugeot 207s on a track that's produced some enjoyable battles in the past; Laguna Seca's last appearance was in the Radically Rubbish Cup where multiple cars battled with each other on every part of the track.
The event kicked off with another first for RRR in "One Shot Qualifying"; where each driver had 1 flying lap to prove their pace. Despite several drivers hitting the 1 minute 36 range in pre-season testing, only RumblyLizard would manage to do so when it counted the most, taking Pole Position by almost half a second. Goteki House driver PJ made a surprise appearance on the seconnd grid slot, just ahead of his hard-charging teammate Shouty. Reigning champion Smifaye lined up in 5th position, a second down on his fellow Black Raptor.
The racing began with a hard charge to the first corner. PJ, being overly cautious following previous incidents with RumblyLizard backed off and took a wide line, losing out to the 3 drivers behind him. Dan Thorn charged up from the back of the grid to make it to 6th place by the end of the first lap, just behind the Irishman. The racing in both lobbies was intense, as cars took multiple corners side by side, including the infamous corkscrew. Halfway through the race and Indypendable train had formed up, as STR TommyB and Dan Thorn were closely followed by PJ, the POWA boys, FlavouryRug and Kimstermagnum.
Places were exchanged many times as the race reached its closing stages. With a lap to go, PJ is fending off Dan Thorn when the pair collide at turn 3; the Cornishman ending up in the gravel while the Goteki driver quickly spun his car around, trying to lose minimal time. That put him behind Bookoi and the pair scrapped for 5th place on the run up to the corkscrew. A rough exit out of Turn 6 gave the Irishman the opportunity to pass and Bookoi attempted to close the door on the Rahal straight, but with an inch to spare the black 207 managed to squeeze past and overtake down the inside of the corkscrew! Meanwhile up front, RumblyLizard and Smifaye were battling hard and crossed the line only 0.050 seconds apart. Shouty took the final podium position and nOc75's win in Lobby 2 rewarded him with 7th place, putting him ahead of 5 Lobby 1 drivers.
All in all, an exciting start to Season 6, with the promise of many similar races to come.
Full reports from all of the drivers can be found from here onwards, for all 3 of this week's races.

"The Aussie V8 cars are big, powerful spiced up road cars that create great racing. They're fast but not uncontrollable, and the V8 soundtrack is incredible. Unlike some powerful RWD cars of past, the Aussie V8s can stand up to a bit of paint swapping. The VE Holden Commodore gives the OSCAR grid a taste of this!
Road America has everything from huge straights and elevation changes to twisty sections and fast corners. The long track will give the cars room to breathe and not trip other each other with the straights and tight corners giving plenty of opportunities to pass cleanly. Highlights include a very long radius right hander that can gain or lose you seconds leading into fast right hander that is full throttle if you have the nerve. This ballsy track will surely bring out the best in the gritty V8 Commodore."

"I chose my race because it harks back to my days of banger racing. A short oval in a naff underpowered car that looks easy, but where correct use of the gears will be critical to lap time. There is more than one way to get around this track, so find what works best for you!"
