Formula Ree Round 6 Report – Berlin Tempelhof Aiport

UPA team mates Lazaros Filippakos and Kyran Parkin are now level on points after round 6 of the Formula Ree championship at Berlin Tempelhof Airport. After taking a win and a 2nd place each at Berlin, the two are only tiebroken by Filippakos’ two third place finishes at Monaco and Hong Kong earlier in the season.

The team mates were almost inseparable in Race 1, with the gap rarely being more than two seconds throughout the race. The deciding pass came on lap 30, when Parkin took the lead and never looked back, though Filippakos was just 0.8 seconds behind at the finish. Mark Singleton took a third podium of the season in 3rd ahead of James Lambert. In 5th was Matthew Wheeler, who made an excellent recovery after a qualifying crash forced him to start at the back. He recovered to 5th after ten laps but was unable to catch the leaders after that. Martin Fernandez, driving his strongest race to date, finished an excellent 7th ahead of April Carlsvard.

The UPA drivers swapped places in Race 2, though they were separated by a larger gap. This was largely thanks to Filippakos managing to take the lead early in the race and build a gap before his team mate eventually worked his way into 2nd. Wheeler finished 3rd, taking just his third podium of the season, having overtaken Lambert late in the race. Singleton and Wallis drove fairly quiet races to 5th and 6th, respectively, while Carlsvard and Fernandez also swapped places compared to Race 1.

This round also saw American driver Brad Whalen make his first start in the second Fury Racing car. As a newcomer to the series, he was still getting to grips with the cars and unfortunate to crash out of both races but has a foundation to build on for the final two rounds.
