The Formula Ree Championship closed up dramatically after Monaco. With Kyran Parkin forced to miss this round, championship rivals James Lambert, Matthew Wheeler and Allie Ferrie took advantage to close up the championship fight. Wheeler took immediate advantage, winning the first race with an extra point for the third-fastest lap – remarkably his first podium finish of the season – followed by 3rd in the second race. Lambert, meanwhile, finished 2nd in both races to take the lead of the championship by one point, despite not having won a race so far this season.
Ferrie won the second race, inheriting the lead when reverse grid polesitter Campbell Wallis spun in the early laps. Parkin’s team mate Lazaros Filippakos, meanwhile, secured 3rd and 6th to begin to rebuild his campaign after three consecutive retirements.
At the halfway point of the season, the championship is extremely close, with only a single point separating the top two drivers. Behind them, Wheeler leads a group of six cars separated by ten points.
The next round of Formula Ree takes place on Sunday, 23rd February 2020 at the Marrakesh Street Circuit.
