Report

Background

The 2011 RRR Brazilian Grand Prix was contested at the Autódromo José Carlos Pace, previously known as Interlagos. It is located within the city of São Paulo, in Brazil. The circuit is located within a bowl-type landscape, meaning most of the track can be seen from many of the grandstands. It was chosen as the last race of the RRR F1 2011 Championship due to the quality of races it provides when it is involved in a title deciding race. This is exactly what the race will provide, the championship has gone down to wire with Smifaye leading Superdelphinus by 15 points. The Black Raptors driver needs to finish 5th or higher to take the first RRR F1 title.

Qualifying

Qualifying started with everyone wondering whether the weather would change. Everyone expected at least one wet session but the weather stayed clear for both sessions. Qualifying got under way with most drivers taking to the track at once in the hope of setting a banker lap. Bookoi experienced an awful lot of traffic and only managed a lap towards the end of the session, leaving him 6th on the grid. Smifaye was the early pace setter and took pole position with a 1:08.727, the only driver to go below the 1:09 mark. The Black Raptors driver said "this is exactly what I needed to ensure I take the championship come the end of Sunday".

Race

Everyone got away cleanly and Smifaye lead Superdelphinus into the first few corners. There was a bit of a squeeze behind with Bookoi left down the back of the field with Mr Flobadob. The two drivers then set about making their way through the pack into points positions. Out at the front Smifaye was slowing building a lead over Superdelphinus with Sodamn Insane 6 close behind. Smifaye had taken a lot of life out of his tyres on his qualifying lap and also the first few laps in the hope of creating a large gap to 2nd place, this meant he pitted for a new set of options on just lap 5. Inside the helmet Smifaye was worried about whether going this early would compromise his race position. Superdelphinus started the race on the prime tyres and did not need to pit until lap 11 when Smifaye reinherited the lead.

Fast forward to the end of the race and Smifaye had a comfortable lead after pitting for the last time and came out behind Icthyes. Icthyes let the leader through but Smifaye ran wide on cold tyres and drifted across track into a spin and collided with the barriers. Smifaye thought the race was over but managed to make it around the track to the pits for a new wing and a new set of tyres. He rejoined in 3rd place, two places ahead of where he needed to finish to take the title. Superdelphinus meanwhile had driven a beautiful race with no mistakes to take his second win of the season. However this wasn't enough for the championship as Smifaye finished in 3rd position for his 7th podium finish of the season and took the first Really Rubbish Racing F1 title.

Smifaye said "I am so delighted to have finally taken my first RRR championship title. I thoroughly enjoyed the season and can't wait to get back in the cockpit of the wonderful FW33 next season. I'm proud of my achievements this season and to finish on the podium at every race I attended this season is something I can look back at in seasons to come and say 'that were fun'. I'd like to thank the Black Raptors team for all their support and know we have conquered the Forza and F1 worlds." End of mumbo-jumbo.
