VLMS S2, Aug '17 - Apr '18

Postby Lemm314 » 18 Jul 2017, 15:56

The announcement for the next VLMS season is live. Info here, schedule here.

Key points in this...
  • Races are on Saturdays
  • Races are all 4 hours long and occur 1 week before the VEC races on the same tracks
  • Minimum 2 drivers per car
  • LMP2 and GTE cars are available

And some important changes from last season
  • Entry fees are per-driver now, 10 euros each. Though there is a 5 euro discount for people who do both VEC and VLMS. Quite a step up from last season's entry fee.
  • Maximum of 1 VEC driver in any car.

So what do we want to do this season? Are we serious about running a GT and a P2 car? We have Neil doing SRCA right now, though I'm not sure where our other non-licensed people are at with licenses. I also know Mike is concerned about date clashes with Karting, so we don't really know what's going on there yet. Either way, we have plenty of people licensed to run cars if we want. We just have to dance around the 1 VEC driver rule a little.

#132 can't happen again, that's for sure. Myself and Allie both have VEC ambitions with Atlantic, meaning we can't work together in VLMS. And I believe Kyran will count as a VEC driver because he's lined up to be a reserve for DHR.

It should also be easy for a Realish LMP2 car to get full setup & strategy support from Atlantic. I don't want to leak too many unannounced plans, but #32 will be back for revenge next season at the least. :P

At worst, I could see myself settling for a "fun" season with a GT car in VLMS, so there's that I guess.

I'm in, once I can get past the other million people trying to sign up for the Academy season.

Was a bit put off by this new driver rule, but I did say I wanted to have a serious crack at VLMS this time round...guess the schedule being the same as the VEC means I only have to practice once for two races so I might as well. Would be interesting to team up some actually fast people with one of the VEC drivers and see if some Realish magic happens.

The races all being 4hrs though means we probably would only need 2 drivers + Reserve, so it might be a bit awkward finding driving time for everybody?

I can help with that! :D

By not taking part, that is - I was already pretty underwhelmed by the calendar personally, and the 4 hours of Le Mans sealed the deal. Will still follow those participating religiously, of course, have all the fun!

I probably won't be getting a licence soon unfortunately, as the SRCA races will conflict with my uni classes for the foreseeable future.

I'm in the same boat as Lee (@Mr Flobadob) with this. Although I did manage to sign up to the current academy season, I was suddenly unable to attend the first race and was then removed from the season and banned from signing up to the next one. So when I can finally be able to sign up, I will do and will be more than happy to go in for this.

Question: Isn't Mike technically not L3 anymore because he did VEC Le Mans last year? Or was that a one off at the discretion of the admins and his license was never officially upgraded?

All licenses go back to L4. But you cant have drivers 2 drivers that will drive the CURRENT vec season. Last season doesnt count :) Only for recommendations :)

I checked Mike's forum account on SRC and it says L3, whereas mine, yours and Lazaros' all say L1 still.

If the Deltec car Mike signed up to either didn't enter LM or removed Mike from its signup he'd default back to his VLMS license. (Not sure which it is, I can't remember).

Cool. Was just thinking about P2 lineup of - myself + one of the interested people needing to get through SRCA + Mike might be good. Presumably Kyran is taking a bit of time off from SRC and you're needing to devote your time to the #32 so that leaves us only one L1 driver (me) depending what Joe wants to do.

Does the change to the VLMS driver rules (now it's only VEC Room 1 drivers that can't be together) alter our plans in any way?

Kind of annoying they've changed it so close to sign up...

Means that should you remain in Division 2, you can share a car with myself or April again. Mike mentioned joining a Division 2 GT team last night, so that wouldn't cause any problems with the new rule. I'm still tentative about actually driving at the moment because I have no faith whatsoever in my connection, but that doesn't mean I can't be on a line-up just in case!

I was going to sit down and make a new livery for the upcoming season. I really quite like this one though so I just made a few minor adjustments for the new season and that's another job ticked off the list.
