It gives you a selection of free and/or discounted games every month in exchange for an amount of money. It also gives you a yellow badge on your icon so you can look down on people like me who don't have it.

On PS3/PSP/Vita? Free games, full-game trials, auto-backup of game saves, and auto-updating games/apps. Do you need it? No, but it's nice to have.

On PS4? All the above, plus online gaming. You'll almost certainly find you need it as a result.

Ahh, so on the PS4 playstation plus will act like Xbox Live Gold, meaning you'll need it to play online?

Yeah, PlayStation Plus on PS4 is the Xbox Live for PlayStation. It's been stated since almost the beginning I believe, just not as big as the the other stuff. Probably to hide it somewhat.

But yeah it's mandatory for online gaming for PS4.

It's just they've got that "buy a year's worth and get 3 months free" deal thing just coming to an end so I was wondering if it was worth it. Might help when it comes to buying GT6 DLC possibly?

PS Plus covers all Sony consoles, so if you're gonna get a PS4, then take advantage of the three months free offer. Plus there's the free games :)

It'll only help with GT6 DLC if they discount it to PS+ members, which they usually do. So could be a good bet.

Yeah, unlike Xbox, they actually have decent and this years games. At the minute, the biggest is ACIII.

PS plus is great, I can heartily recommend it. Genuinely good, current games for free as long as you have it. Free Vita games is great too, I bought a Vita recently just to take full advantage of Plus. I'd get it now since it appears to be of greater benefit to PS3 users than it will be to PS4 users with it beig required for online and whatnot. I'm bloody glad I had it since when my PS3 YLOD'd I at least had all my game saves backed up.

Today I paid the last instalment on my pre ordered PS4.

A hefty sum of money, no doubt, but I was pleasantly surprised when the cashier handed me back the guts of €100.

The console is actually priced at €400, and not the €500 I had originally planned for. This is good news indeed, as a mate of mine is getting married tomorrow, so I will have some monies to go towards the state of the art toaster I got for him and his wife to be. I might also buy some beers. Maybe. Possibly. Definitely.

I was not so pleasantly surprised when they told me the release date is the end of November and not the beginning of October like I originally thought. Not sure why October 4th was in my head as the release date. Maybe I got mixed up by the fact that I'm getting a new bedside lamp that day.

In any event though, I will be a PS4-er in the not too distant future. Now to decide on which games I want...

Had a call during lunch time today to ask if I'd be interested in heading down for a midnight release of the PS4 (one of which I have preordered). I said to the guy on the phone, "Ah yeah, shur go on then, I might as well." First time I've been in a position to buy a console like this on release day. I remember back in the bad aul days, when it seemed everyone else was getting a Playstation 1 for Christmas, I went downstairs and under the tree was a second hand Sega Megadrive. I loved it to pieces. Oodles of time spent playing Golden Axe, Yogi Bear, Sonic The Hedgehog and our personal favourite at the time, Winter Olympics. It was fantastic.

Now that I'm all grown up and stuff, the first game will be Killzone, as part of a bundle offer. Will have FIFA on the way too, for when the guys are over for a few beers. I've got my eye on Watch Dogs and Destiny for next year.

Having said all that, I'm likely to be completely immersed in GT6, which admittedly, I'm actually more excited about than the PS4.

I've got a chunk of money sitting in my saving I've been waiting to use on something special. I really want to do Goodwood next year as I haven't been for a couple of years but I'm awfully tempted to save it for a PS4. Trouble is there are no games I'm even remotely interested in at the moment and there's still too much life left in the PS3 for me to want to give up on it. I really want one though. Soon...

They had a PS4 in GAME in Leeds, it wasn't set up but I did have a hold of the controller and I like it very, very much. Which is good because I didn't like the PS3 controller.

There's much more weight to it like the XBox ones and the triggers are so much better. They won't slip off in driving games like they currently do.

There's one in the Game in Glasgow too. Very, very nice controller, though I seem to be unique in preferring the PS3 controller over the 360 one.

Know a friend of a friend who might be getting one, so I may get a shot on one fairly soon.

Good to hear about the PS4 controller. The PS3 one is based on a 20 year old design and it's really not comfy, although they still haven't positioned the analogue sticks in the correct place on the PS4 one. They should make different versions depending on players preference.

The 360 controller is my 2nd favourite comfort-wise. First is the GameCube's. Perfect design in every way (aside from the lack of a left shoulder button)

That's an easy fix on the DualShock 3 - if you're willing to spend the gargantuan sum of £3 :)

I've always preferred the Playstations controller design. Symmetrical analogue sticks is so much easier for any game that isn't a racing game, and I always use the dpad where possible to steer on racing games. Also the buttons on the Playstation controller are much softer, as opposed to the defined click of the 360 one which feels a bit cheap. Hope the PS4 controller isn't too different!

Agreed on the GameCube controller though. It's brilliant.

I read somewhere that the PS4 controller was supposed to be 72g lighter than the DualShock 3, so I'm glad that's not true. Really want a PS4 now as well, not getting one for at least a year though, maybe two. Need to pass driving lessons/tests first.

I can't see it myself, I'm just cant get re-used to reaching across with my left thumb, it just doesn't sit naturally there. Obviouslts once upon a time when it was the standard I knew no better, but after the GameCube/Xbox/360 I struggle to go back.

Dan 7horn wrote:Also the buttons on the Playstation controller are much softer, as opposed to the defined click of the 360 one which feels a bit cheap
That's another thing I don't like. They're too soft, like a spongy brake pedal. It's like... have I pressed it or haven't I?
