It's also out on Linux!

...if anyone besides me cares...

In all seriousness, I am considering it. Heard tonnes of good reviews for it recently.

It's something you'll play solid for a week, and then come back to every now and again when you fancy it. Doesn't mean it's not worth it though. One of those long term ones that's easy to get back into after a break.

I've just realised though what this game is screaming out for though...

A Gumball Rally mod. The game isn't multiplayer, so that's something that would be required for it to be any fun. No idea if that's something a modding community could do or whether you'd have to wait for the devs to add it in properly, but Imagine gunning it across Truck Simulator's mini version of Europe in sports cars. Start in Edinburgh, first one back via Dover, Paris, Milan, Bratislava, Berlin and Amsterdam wins. Any route you like, via you cross the channel at Dover/Folkstone, having to stop for petrol on the way, avoiding speed cameras and police (would also have to added in), points and time lost if you get caught or fined. Do you take the more direct but twistier route over the Alps, or do you take the longer but faster coastal motorway?

Would be epic...

I got this a while back. It was pretty cool at first but I got frustrated with it taking ages to make good money so I inevitably modded the save file to have 99999999999 money so I could buy and upgrade the ultimate truck. Yh I ruined my game experience by doing that :/

I looked up on multiplayer too. There was a community developing a multiplayer mod but they scrapped it for one reason or another which is pretty disappointing.

Aw that's no good. You're supposed to be in it for the long haul (pun intended). The route I've taken (pun intended) was to drive for other companies until I could afford my own second hand truck (with the help of a small loan) and a base to keep it (in Cambridge). Once I had that, I began doing deliveries for myself to bring in the money which began to pay the loan off. After a few in-game days of doing that and having about 100,000, I got another, bigger loan. This let me buy a new depot on the continent (Liege, I believe), 2 new trucks, and hire 2 employees to drive them. Then all 3 of you can go about doing jobs and earning money. Today I paid off the smaller loan outright, and a little more work will see me paying off the big loan. Your hired drivers earn more and more money as they gain experience, and from here on in I expect the company to grow exponentially.

Once I've paid off the bigger loan, I'll save enough money to replace my ageing and bottom-of-the-range cab with a much more powerful new one, and after that get a loan for another couple of trucks and another new base of operations for 2 new drivers. Then there will be 5 of us paying off a loan the same size as my second one. Easy peasy

My tactic was just to take out as many loans as often as possible and just keep plodding along with it. It got me a truck and depot pretty quickly and then hired drivers to help cover costs and build up more of a savings pot. As I was paying off loans, I was increasing my loan amounts to max wherever possible so that, with my savings, I could get an extra cash injection to buy another depot and hire more drivers to make more money to save up more money quicker. Rinse and repeat. Basically my whole empire was funded on credit (I have about 6 or 7 depots now and my main Sheffield depot has been upgraded to a large one too.
When it comes to the trucks, I dont mod them really. Waste of money. At the end of the day, they are all limited to 55 anyway, so whether you buy a better engine (and other bits really) or not, it ultimately wont make any difference except for mainly physical appearance. Have some extra lights on the trucks to see a bit better at night but thats about it. So at least then, I just buy cheapest base model truck and save the extra money to spend elsewhere.

Patch 1.6 was released last week. The main addition is that of the beginning of the integration of the game with the World of Trucks website. It's kind of a 'Rockstar Social Club' but for Euro Truck Simulator. It's in the early stages at the moment and all you can do is upload a custom driver avatar, make yourself a personalised number plate for your trucks, and host a gallery of screenshots (taken with the game's new photo mode - very much like Forza and Gran Turismo's).

But I am to believe that in the future it will introduce a full-on multiplayer, allowing for players to create companies and hire other players as drivers.

So, once again, the cliché for the nth time... Really Rubbish Riggers, anyone?

also, coming in the next could of updates (before winter sets in) - completely re-written and less stupid AI. And in early 2014... American Truck Simulator.

i am properly properly looking forward to some multiplayer action on this.

My only fear is that so long driving an open world in gta has warped my vision of sensible driving.

Hey ho, it's not really rubbish for no reason.

Major update for this, version 1.9. the most important part of which is a vastly improved AI traffic system.

This is currently £2.24 for the next six hours on Steam. It's the best £2.24 you'll ever spend so if you've been holding off, there is now no excuse not to.

That sinking realisation that the truck in front is stopping and there's a bus in the next lane preventing you from taking avoiding action...
