Introduced my mate at work to this game. Got a text from him at 2am saying "Oh god, it's 2am and I'm still playing, I need to be up at 7 :? . On the positive side though, I reached 30,000!"

Bumworth died a death last night. It's now a very very bankrupt ghost town.

Just watched Nerdcubed's playthrough of this and am really quite fancying it now, not just for how incredible it looks but so that I can build something far more organic than the frustratingly grid based formulaic nature of the city he built!

Every single person I've watched play this on youtube has either built a grid-based city, been incredibly bad at the game, or both. And this is people who make a living playing sim and strategy games on YouTube.

The best I've seen from anyone on YouTube so far is Lazy Game Reviews, who has quite an interesting and diverse city.

Plus now Robbaz has built a city on Gabe Newell's face

Of course, there's all these clever people on Reddit who have already made a ton of beautiful cities. So many great mods popping up too, and now that my first city has been tried and failed, I've downloaded a whole load of them, like reduced garbage, all 25 tiles unlockable, the first person camera mode, The Bluth Frozen Banana Stand, power stations built by ex-Maxis employees etc...

So this game definitely has my attention.

It looks like a lot of fun and I really enjoy the planning of it all. I watched the Nerd^3 review and the traffic issue seems very challenging which is appealing to me.

1.0.6b patch mods

Lots of little bug fixes, as well as more visual stuff like being able to turn that horrible film grain effect off, switch directions of 1 way roads, turn one way roads to two way roads or vice versa.

Still desperately in need of a 4 lane, 1-way road though.

So, even though I reviewed Cities: Skylines over a week ago, I've still been playing it (which is always a good sign) and I now have a city called Rockdale with a population of 56,000, or around this same as Livingston.

Image

What started as a small settlement on the mountainous north of the river quickly turned into a very desirable residential/commercial area. The bridges reflect the growth, with the railway bridge (which is part of the Rockdale Circle line with blue trains) taking an interesting line over the terrain.
Image

Hirani Hole was too good not to steal, though it's recently had its status as Rockdale's industrial hub challenged by a new set-up to the south. Goods are regularly shunted between them and the world by road, rail and sea.

Image

The most recent addition is the airport (affording such things is trivial since money has rarely been an issue apart from one dead people crisis) complete with its own rail link to the ferry port and the rest of the rail network. Both are rather alarmingly empty.

Image

As the rail network grew, it became apparent that laying it through the old part of the city would be unfeasible. As such, I took advantage of the vast empty expanse known as the city water ways.

Image

That expansion led to massive congestion at the ends of the city network as local trains met inter-city trains and goods trains. As a result, a dizzying array of bypasses was created to keep goods trains off the passenger lines and inter-city trains off local lines in busy areas. The tiles to the south were bought up to provide a southern link to the mainline network, too.

Image

That's Rockdale: a haphazard mess of poor forward planning, congestion and railways. The people seem to enjoy it though!

Except Milton Keynes, which was pre-planned, has one station and people hate it.

Milton Kenyes' problem is that it doesn't have any character; it really is just a grid of buildings, shops and houses.

Other UK cities are more liked because they have a history and culture, which outweighs how inefficient their street layouts are.

Annoyingly there were codes, a week after I bought it full price, for £10. Should still be around somewhere.

Cheapest non-VPN-activation-hassle key's 16,50€, russian key 11,60€ over here.

Nuuvem is a bit more trustworthy than the "normal" key resellers, offering it at roughly 16,30€ over here (global key, but you'll have to use hola on nuuvem's site, it seems).

If you want to go "fully-trustworthy", there's GMG offering it at just under 22€ after applying this 22% voucher: SAVE22-OVERHO-LIDAYS

I don't even know where to start with this, i seem to run out of money after a few roads and some water pipe lines. Gah! Maybe 6 lane roads aren't the way to go with every single road...

Errrr, no, you want to be starting with gravel roads and the cheap single lane roads, only build what you need to build.

Don't go grossing out and entire square full of roads, getting it all perfect, but a big expensive power plant, water pumps and sewage treatment only to find you have no money left for, y'know... Houses.
